Our Zady Review: An Online Retailer 0f Sustainably-Made Products

Zady started, simply, as an online retailer of sustainably-made products. One year later, they launched the first garment for their in-house brand: the perfect sweater. While they still feature all of the yummy sustainable goods from their “friends”, the Zady line has expanded. In fact, Emma Watson is the inspiration for their current line.

“Fast Fashion is Fast Food. Empty calories that make us feel full.” – From the Zady manifesto

Zady Review

Actress Emma Watson in Malawi, where she introduced the Silk Skirt from the Emma Watson Collection. Zady’s silk products are made from 100% cruelty-free, organic silk which is harvested only after the worm has emerged from the cocoon and flown away. No toxic chemicals or harmful pesticides are used in the harvesting process.

Friends of Zady

The ladies at Zady (founders Maxine Bedat and Soraya Darabi) are masters at finding and curating the highest quality, and most lust-worthy, products. From ombre-dyed dog collars and leashes, to bags made from hand-woven textiles, Zady’s friends hold themselves to the highest production standards, and it shows! Browse through the stunning images, and you will also find jewelry, scarves, homewares, and even a decent line of stationery. This includes the world’s most beautiful pencil, if you’re into that kind of thing!

The Zady Commitment

Zady’s commitment to sustainability touches on all aspects. They consider the people, the planet, and animals when sourcing supplies for their in-house line. Working directly with their suppliers, Zady ensures that the employees are treated and paid (usually more than) fairly. The environment is a prime consideration in all of their production. Zady sources their natural fibers – plant and animal alike –  from farms with high ethical standards. Of course, this isn’t the only thing Zady does to separate itself from the competition.

Here are just a few of the Zady differences:

  • They source their Cruelty-free silk (also known as peace silk) from a plantation in India that employs mosquito nets for pest control, rather than pesticides.
  • They source their Wool and alpaca fibers from GOTS certified farms and non-mulesed animals.
  • The perfect t-shirt is 100% organic cotton and made in the USA, all the way from the farm in Texas to the final factory in North Carolina where the finishing touch is printed on using phthalate-free ink.

Vivre en simplicité. Live in simplicity. Embroidered in New York City with a French phrase we aspire to.

The Zady Collection

But, this is no eco-hippie line of stretch pants and tank tops.  Zady’s collection features minimalist lines and masculine silhouettes, soft fabrics and classic tailoring. As a result, the overall effect is modern, easy, and timeless. While the Cable Knit Sweater evokes images of a northern winter on high seas, the Cigarette Pant is a nod to the 50’s in a relaxed fit.

Don’t worry, boys. Zady didn’t forget about you! Although their “men’s” section is small, many offerings on the site are unisex. Luckily, the limited products they do have for men are incredibly strong pieces. Take this Alpaca Sweater with reverse jersey stitch elbow patches for example. This simple design perfectly exemplifies Zady’s ability to produce quality clothing that is also incredibly versatile.

Highlight Your Best Feature

Transparency is the big buzzword of the green community right now, and this is where Zady really shines. Every product page features the entire story of where the garment came from, including its production. Every. Single. One. As a result, you can virtually meet the women of Mercado Global who make that amazing Royal Matea Weekender bag. If you’re interested in the carbon footprint, you can trace every country involved in the manufacturing. Naturally, this goes all the way back to the farm that the fiber originally came from. This company is as transparent as it gets. The only thing you have to do to learn the whole story, is to scroll. Therefore, we highly recommend checking Zady, and their amazing offerings, out.

Zady is not a company that is working towards getting it right, they are already there.
